Hello! Mochi Mochi! My name is Jess.
I started MochiMochi Hawaii in 2021. Although I have been making daifuku mochi since I was a teenager, I usually only made it for special occasions, like New Years' or Girls' Day. I remember picking up a cookbook sometime around age 13, specifically looking for filled mochi. At the time, googling recipes wasn't really a thing (yes, I'm that old) and I ended up finding a few different recipes, taking bits and pieces from each one and adding a few touches of my own. My family enjoyed it so much, and my aunties and uncles would ask me for the recipe, but after realizing how much work it was, they decided to just wait until I made it, ha!
In 2020, my 15 year career in the fine jewelry business came to an end after I was laid off due to the economic impact of COVID-19. It was after having a lot of time to think about it that I decided to pursue a different avenue, one that may not be as glamorous, but possibly more fulfilling. MOCHI!
Now, after having a daughter and a few picky nieces and nephews, I've experimented with different fillings and flavors to appease more palettes who may not always love the red bean as much as I do. I always enjoy my mochi with a cup of hot tea, and I envision my mochi bringing a sense of calm, so I aim to create flavors that reflect both simplicity and indulgence.
This is a new venture for me, and it's truly a breath of fresh air away from corporate life. I am so truly appreciative of your support, patience, and positive vibes. It is my honor to make mochi for you, and I hope you enjoy it as much as my family and friends have for almost 20 years.
Love,
Jess
